Course Descriptions:
LEGO Spike Essentials: Ages 6-9
Discover the world of engineering and coding with LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential! Participantsts work in pairs to design and build creative models using motors, sensors, and colorful LEGO® elements. Through playful, hands-on challenges, they explore simple machines, block coding, and teamwork while developing curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills that lay the foundation for future robotics learning.
LEGO Spike Prime: Ages 9-14
Take your LEGO engineering and coding skills to the next level with LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime! Building on the foundations of SPIKE™ Essential, students explore advanced robotics, engineering, and problem-solving using powerful motors, sensors, and a programmable hub. Through hands-on challenges, they apply block- or text-based coding to create interactive, real-world models while strengthening creativity, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills.
Minecraft Club
Participants will use our Minecraft Education license to complete building challenges, and will apply what they learn in the worlds they create and play in. Teamwork, collaboration, communication, and social interactions are essential outcomes when participating in this club. This club is run by Ruby, Adam and/or Nate Corkhum.
Video Game Design
With the guided tutorials of Microsoft MakeCode, participants will level up their coding abilities! Participants will develop programming skills by quickly creating and modding retro arcade games. This course is taught by Adam and/or Nate Corkhum.
Python Coding: Ages 10 and up
Participants will discover the basics of Python, one of the most popular and beginner-friendly programming languages. Through interactive lessons and hands-on projects, you will learn essential coding concepts such as variables, loops, conditions, and functions, all while creating simple games, stories, and animations. This course is taught by Adam Corkhum, UMass Lowell graduate in Computer Science.
